Canyon Contracting OfficeCanyon Contracting Inc. is a concrete construction company specializing in commercial construction projects in the government, private, and competitively bid public sectors. We conduct 10-20 million dollars of business per year with a bonding capacity to match. Since its founding in 2003 by principal owner Jay D. Keller, Canyon Contracting has enjoyed a responsible and consistent growth including the acquisition of L. Barrett Contracting in 2005. Canyon’s portfolio of successfully completed projects included schools, churches, multi-level concrete framed structures, parking garages, industrial/treatment facilities, and local/federal government projects. We are proud to say that most of the employees over the years remain working with Canyon Contracting today. Our company consists of approximately 110 employees, twenty of which work in the management and administration departments and the balance in field operations and support personnel. Our shared focus centers on safety, quality, accuracy and timely contract completion.

Our Office Staff

Jay Keller Jay Keller– President/Owner
Jay founded Canyon in 2003 and actively oversees all aspects of the business. He has been in the industry since 1996 with Keller Brothers, which his brother still runs. During the weekends, you may find him trolling the blue waters of his favorite Canyons.
Alison Bowyer Alison Bowyer– Controller
Alison is the head of the Accounting Department and oversees all financial aspects of the company. Daily responsibilities include managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and human resources. She enjoys riding horses and spending time watching her kids participate in all of their various sports.
Stacy Howard Stacy Howard– Accounts Payable
Stacey reconciles processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances. She has always worked in the accounting field. On most days she is a loving mother of three…if they listen.
Marielle Pierce Mariella Pierce– Director of Human Resources
Marielle manages the Human Resources Department to include recruiting, employee relations, benefits, compensation, payroll, and regulatory compliance issues. Mariella graduated with a degree in Economics and holds her PHR and SHRM-CP certifications in Human Resources. She enjoys canvas painting, crafting, cross stitching, decorating, gardening and traveling to beach destinations.
Matt Renner Matt Renner– Project Manager
With 25 years in the Concrete Construction Industry Matt’s adventures from labor to project management has allowed him to be a part of many successful projects. Along with his leadership experiences Matt has ACI certifications in Flatwork Finisher and Tilt-up Tech. In his spare time, he enjoys the outdoor life. Accompanied by family & friends you can find him hunting, fishing, and camping the wild and wonder mountains of West Virginia.
Chris Higgins Chris Higgins– Project Manager
Chris has only ever worked in construction and is now a PM at Canyon, helping make sure our jobs run smoothly and profitably. A UMD grad, Chris can often be found cheering on the Terps, hanging out at Camden Yards, or anywhere else they serve cold beer.
Grant Cregger Grant Cregger– Project Manager
Grant has been with Canyon since 2011 and quickly worked his way up the ladder from an Assistant PM into his current role. He has experience in both residential and commercial construction as well as an Associate’s Degree in Construction Management Program where he graduated with Honors.
Connor Moore Connor Moore – Assistant Project Manager
Connor provides the Project Managers and Superintendents with the necessary information to effectively and efficiently maintain the day to day operation on multiple projects. He handles project submittals and close out documents as well.
This local graduate of Glenelg, earned his AA shortly after at HCC. Like most here, he is an avid bass fisher and sweats red, white and blue.
Anthony Cramer Anthony Cramer – Dispatch & Purchasing
Logistics and procurement; these are the things Anthony knows and enjoys. He is the guy whom everyone calls for equipment, material and the scheduling there of. He is truly the “go-to” guy for Canyon. Anthony has a background which includes work as a CDL truck driver, heavy equipment operator, mechanic, and logistics management. Family is the most important thing to Anthony. However, classic cars, growing the hottest peppers, and quoting lines from “Hot Rod” are a close second.
Kristina Kennelly Kristina Kennelly– Project Accountant
Kristina has worked in the accounting field for the past 15 years. She handles the day to day operations of the Accounts Receivable department, processing project invoices and change orders to maintain accurate project accounting records. When the weather cooperates, Kristina unwinds fishing in the bay on the family boat or relaxing on the beach with a good book.
Mike Messink Mike Messink– General Superintendent
With over 32 years of concrete construction experience, Mike oversees the field operations, and coordinates scheduling for most projects. He is ACI certified for flatwork and is a certified pervious concrete installer.
Jimmy Carpenter Jimmy Carpenter– Estimator
Responsibilities include performing and overseeing detailed cost estimates and project budgets, finding and tracking projects coming up for bid, negotiating and performing scope reviews with General Contractors as well as other duties involving project management.
Jacob R. Butcher Jacob R. Butcher– Estimator
Day to day activities include cost estimating, digital takeoff, marketing, and business development. Jacob has a BA from Salisbury University and has a background Project Managing as well as an Estimating for a regional General Contractor. Jacob has been with Canyon since 2009. When not working, he can be found X-fitting, playing club lacrosse or coach his daughter’s soccer team.
Roland Lopez Roland Lopez– Associate
By way of Florida, where he earned his B.A. at Flagler in Business Administration, he now calls Washington DC home. From property management, to estimating, to business development, Roland is the Swiss Army knife of the Canyon team.
Lauren Bartlett Lauren Bartlett– Marketing and Business Development
Our newest member of the Canyon Family, Lauren earned her BA in Public Relations and Marketing from Salisbury University. She oversees the day-to-day marketing and business development tasks. In her spare time you can find Lauren hiking, working on her blog or just hanging out with friends and family.
Sean Regan Sean Regan – Safety Director
Sean manages Canyon’s safety program including, on-boarding, training, and site inspections. He has over ten years of commercial construction experience as well as over 19 years as a member of the fire department, where he currently holds the rank of Captain.
